Introduction to Sealed Lead Acid Batteries

Valve regulated sealed lead-acid batteries are VRLA batteries. It was born in the 1970s, and by 1975, it had already formed a considerable production scale in some areas, quickly becoming industrialized and widely launched on the market. Although this type of battery is also a lead-acid battery, it has many advantages compared to the original lead-acid battery and is highly favored by users, especially those who need to install battery supporting equipment together (or in a workspace), such as UPS, telecommunications equipment, mobile communication equipment, computers, motorcycles, etc. This is because VRLA batteries are fully sealed, do not leak acid, and do not release acid mist during charging and discharging like old-fashioned lead-acid batteries, which can corrode equipment and pollute the environment. Therefore, from the perspective of structural characteristics, VRLA batteries are also called sealed lead-acid batteries. To distinguish, old-fashioned lead-acid batteries are called open lead-acid batteries. Due to its structure, VRLA batteries are not only fully sealed, but also have a valve that can control the gas pressure inside the battery. Therefore, the full name of VRLA lead-acid batteries is "valve regulated sealed lead-acid batteries".
